Kazoo Band Leader

Time Commitment: 30 hours per year

No previous experience is needed and there is no audition. This is not a demanding position, and the outgoing Leader will help you with the transition. If you love to have fun and would enjoy supporting the town and meeting new people, then this may be for you.

The Kazoo Band Leader:

  • selects music for the performances,

  • helps coordinate the set-up of sound equipment (with help)

  • leads the practices (about an hour before each performance), &

  • leads about 8 performances per year, 10 - 40 minutes in length

Cornstalks Decorator

Time Commitment: 30 hours per year (most in September - October)

This position is part of the Decorating Committee and coordinates the decoration of downtown Meaford with cornstalks and bows. The outgoing Cornstalks Decorator will provide support with the transition into the role.

  • Arranges for corn stalks donation with a local farmer and for bow material

  • Coordinates the cutting and distribution of corn stalks with volunteers

  • Coordinates the placement of cornstalks and bows in downtown with volunteers

  • Coordinates the removal and disposal of cornstalks and bows with volunteers

  • Recruits volunteers for these jobs with the assistance of other team members and ensures volunteers sign-in

  • Arranges for an after-job treat for the volunteers on the decorating and take-down day

Promotions Lead

Time Commitment: 50 hours per year

This position leads the Promotions Team and promotes the invasion and its related activities. No experience needed – just an interest in marketing and a willingness to learn as you go.

The Promotions Lead:

  • Develops an annual promotions strategy

  • Coordinates the activities of the promotions team

  • Develops and submits media releases and ad copy to media outlets

  • Acts as the main contact with media outlets for quotes and coordination of efforts

  • Maintains a presence on appropriate tourism websites

  • Arranges interviews with media outlets

  • Coordinates event signage

Event Vice Chair

Time Commitment: 150 hours per year

This position works with the Event Chair to oversee and coordinate the activities of the Scarecrow Invasion.

The Event Chair:

  • Assists with ensuring the annual plan is established and carried out

  • Represents the board at community and other meetings and liaises with community and government organizations

  • Assists with organizing the participation of the Scarecrow Invasion at community events

  • Assists with fundraising efforts

  • Assists with recruiting new Scarecrow team members

  • Fills in as needed

Residential Scarecrow Contest Coordinator

Time Commitment: 30 hours per year

This position is part of the Promotions committee and coordinates the residential scarecrow contest with the help of the team.

The Residential Scarecrow Contest Coordinator:

  • Ensures the contest parameters are updated on the website

  • Ensures the website contest form is updated according to the annual parameters

  • Monitors contest entries, ensuring photographs are taken and a list is compiled of the entries

  • Coordinates judging of the entries

  • Arranges for prizes and their awarding to the winner

Photographer

Time Commitment: 20 hours per year

This position is part of the Promotions Team and special equipment is not required.

The Photographer:

  • Takes pictures of the invasion, business and residential scarecrow displays, the parade and festival, and other scarecrow invasion activities

  • Uploads pictures on a timely basis to the team’s shared drive for use in social media posts and the website
